Precis of A tale of horror

In Tove Jansson’s classic children’s story “A Tale of Horror”, the next-to-youngest whomper realizes, to his deep distress, that just imagining the Ghost Wagon has made it real, “waiting for the darkness to start rolling along”. Why, with all the things we’ve good reason to fear, do we bring into existence, from nothing but the shadows of our own minds, the things that go on to frighten us most?
