Precis of Uroboros
“Time brings everything,” said Plato. And then it brings everything again. This is the meaning of the Uroboros, the serpent devouring its own tail that has figured resonantly in myth and faith through the ages.
Time, this symbol reveals, is an infinite cycle. So the seasons come and go, empires rise and are razed, and human lives repeat the patterns of their forebears and cast the mould for the generations to follow. Even our universe, some scientists have hypothesized, is just one cosmic blip among countless others.
Eternity doesn’t stretch out forever — it just, it seems, keeps going round and round…
